Concentration Statement: “I focus on the feelings/experiences of multiracial individuals. Growing up half-Vietnamese in a predominantly white environment influenced my perspective. I dove deeper into the shared experiences of multiracial communities. It’s hard to put feelings of ambiguity and in-betweenness into words. These works speak to a feeling of racial greyness in a binary society, and how each subject views their identity.”
This photograph expresses the split between Maevis' Korean and Jewish heritages.

Annika feels that depending on the environment, she feels that either her Indian or German identity masks the other rather than co-existing.

Manon is black and Puerto Rican. Most people only see her as a black woman– she is photographed in a historically black neighborhood in Pittsburgh, PA.

Liv is half black and half white. She has learned about both sides of her family and wants to continue fully embracing her identity as a whole entity as rather than two distinct sides.
